Revised 5th Aug. 2001.

Bell Airacobra (Caribou) Mk I, No. 601 Squadron 'County of London', RAF, Duxford, October to December 1941

No601 Squadron recieved their first P-39's in august 1941. The RAF did not like the plane from the outset, because of the reduced power of the engine over the earlier P-39C. This was due to the removal of the turbo charger, which reduced the maximum speed of the plane to 367mph. There were many other teething troubles with the aircraft, and were even declared non-operational because of the problems encountered in bad weather conditions. This was a real morale blow as 601 was considered one one of the RAF's "elite" squadrons this time. The P-39's were finally replaced by Spitfires in early 1942 after much complaining. After this the RAF cancelled it's order for the plane, and the redundant P-39's were later shipped to Russia, and were used to great effect in the ground attack role.

Simply unzip all *.3dz, *.tpc and *.dat files to your EAW-directory.

The plane can be used P51b and Spit 2 slots.
